Mod 5: Calling All Creatives!!!
3-2-1 Format:
3 Take-Away Ideas:
1. Creativity is Teachable: The module emphasizes that creativity is a teachable skill rather than just an innate talent. I resonate with this personally so much. People often approach me at showcases stating, "wow, I wish I could do this". My response of "YOU CAN" always surprises them. It amazes me how discouraged people are to pursue art because they feel as if you have to have a natural talent in order to begin. This perspective is empowering for educators, as it suggests that all students can develop and enhance their creative thinking abilities through intentional instruction and practice.
2.Importance of Creativity in Problem Solving: Creativity plays a crucial role in problem-solving skills. Teachers who integrate technology in transformative ways and focus on fostering creativity in learning environments can significantly enhance students' problem-solving abilities. Art is all about making mistakes then making the mistakes work for you. This highlights the importance of incorporating creative thinking into instructional practices across disciplines.
3. Fostering Creativity in Instruction: The module suggests various strategies for fostering creativity in instruction, including modeling creative thinking, encouraging diverse perspectives, celebrating creative ideas, and providing students with choices. Creating a classroom environment that values creativity and promotes risk-taking can significantly enhance students' creative thinking skills.
2 Impactful Resources:
1. Sir Ken Robinson's TED Talk: Sir Ken Robinson's TED Talk, "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" had a significant impact on me. It emphasizes the importance of creativity in education and challenges traditional approaches to teaching and learning. 2. 30 Things You Can Do to Promote Creativity in Your Classroom:This resource provides practical strategies for promoting creativity in the classroom, ranging from incorporating open-ended projects to encouraging curiosity and risk-taking. It offers actionable ideas that educators can implement to foster creativity in their instructional practices. 1 Idea for Future Classroom Implementation:
I found the concept of fostering creativity through digital storytelling particularly compelling. Integrating digital storytelling activities into my future classroom would provide students with opportunities to express their creativity, communicate ideas effectively, and engage in collaborative learning experiences. Digital storytelling can redefine the writing process and offer students a platform to share their stories with a wider audience. I plan to explore tools like Buncee to facilitate digital storytelling activities in my classroom.
